The Day Before is an action game developed by FNTASTIC. It is an open-world massively multiplayer online game and a third-person action shooter game set in a post-pandemic America. Here, the world is overrun by flesh-hungry infected humans, and you are one of the survivors. You need to set out to find answers and resources to live. 

Worse, you do not only have to fight the infected but the other survivors as well. The Day Before takes players to a global pandemic where zombie-like enemies called The Infected wreck havoc on what remains of the human race.

Loot and survive

You will be playing as one of the survivors. You will be on your toes as you explore the city, scavenging for items, food, and weapons. But, as noted, your enemies are not just The Infected. As it is an MMO, there will be other players in the game. You can fight them to have the resources to yourself. However, you can also join forces and work together to survive.

As you play, you will run into hordes of enemies, incorporating both PvP and PvE elements. Aside from gunplay, the game also includes looting. As part of your means of survival, you can sell your loot to other players. The Day Before also has a Heads-Up Display (HUD) like other survival games. This HUD features three small gauges for temperature, thirst, and energy. 

You will need to monitor and maintain these gauges as you play since it will affect your chances of survival. The game features a detailed world. Despite its post-pandemic setting, the city is full of sophisticated lighting and weather effects. Not only that, but the game has some relevant humor and even comes with references to pop culture and contemporary news. However, to enjoy the game to its fullest, it requires 75GB of storage space for the download.

Customize your weapon

The game features a gunsmith system similar to Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War and Call of Duty: Black Ops III. It allows you to outfit your gun with a variety of attachments, including magazines, muzzles, pistol grips, and many more to suit your playstyle. The attachments you chose can alter the Distance, Fire Rate, Power, and Sustainability stats of your weapon—all of which are indicated by a white bar.

Officially pulled from Steam’s roster

Days after the official release of The Day Before on Steam, developers announced that they would be shutting down operations and, subsequently, online support for this action title. According to Fntastic, despite the game’s sizable following, it ended up failing financially so it lacks the resources to further roll out patches and other updates over time. Due to this, the developers formally announced their closure while also allowing players to opt for a refund, regardless of how many hours of the game they’ve played.

While the game’s servers will continue to remain operational, there are no concrete plans for its future. Prior to the studio’s decision to shut down, the game received an overwhelmingly negative response. While the game was largely marketed as an MMO, its gameplay was much more similar to that of an extraction shooter. The game also lacked the supposed open-world elements that were showcased in the game’s trailer. Furthermore, players reported numerous bug and crash occurrences, as well as frequent lagging.

Impressive MMO

In a nutshell, The Day Before is a game that would appeal to hardcore survival game fanatics. Both the gameplay and the graphics are impressive and will remind you of the popular AAA titles. There is also more to the game than simply surviving. The only drawback is the fact that it requires a lot of resources to get the full experience.
